Usually, for the Eid festival here in England, instead of buying new gifts, my family and I collectively donate presents to the most pressing cause. Last year we raised over £2,000 for orphan sponsorships in Africa and Pakistan. This year I wanted to extend the gift-giving.
Plant a tree in Indonesia
I'm a supporter of the Trees4Life Campaign on MUSLIMNESS, that has has launched ‘Poetry in Motion - The Green Poetry Challenge 2011’. This poetry competition invites you to submit a creative poem on the topic of the environment to win a trip to Kew Gardens.
Submitting your creative poem for just £5 enters you into the challenge and buys you a tree in Indonesia. All submissions will receive an e-Certificate of Plantation acknowledging the planting of the tree.
If creative writing is not your thing, not to worry as you can still make a donation and sponsor a tree for just £5 on behalf of your friend or family - a rewarding surprise for Eid morning.
Your kind donation will nurture a tree from the day of its planting for three years until it is strong enough to fend for itself.
The name of the person who the tree is planted for will be placed on a plaque at the location site and also appear on the Trees4Life donors page.
The closing date for the poetry competition is: Friday 21st October 2011
