I come from a family of extreme re-users. My dear father, may Allah bless him, quirky as he is, still looks at the last fallen tree branches thinking out lout, "What can I make out of this?" A woven basket perhaps!
I think the same. A couple of weeks ago I lost my dustpan. It's an honest mistake, I'm not domesticated that way. So, while using scraps of card set aside for recycling as a sort-of rubbish scooper, I thought of turning the empty milk bottles into emergency dustpans. With a handle and everything! It's so cheap but functional. I know, right?!
How To Make Yours
Keeping the handle allows me to hang it with other tools. It doesn't really need anything else unless you want to go all military and start drilling holes. You could cut along the corner of the milk bottle, an idea from Cheezburger.
Even eco-brother approves and finds the dustpan a decent upgrade. "You missed a bit bro". He frowned.

Mark out the areas on the milk bottle to make a shovel shape.
I included the handle and cut along the straight side to make a flat-based opening.
