Leave it to ladies to do all the dirty work. I kid! More often than not though, when there's a movement of change, it's passionate women we see, smiling through struggles, to learn and become renewed.

The Muslim Women's Council based in Bradford, UK, is one group dedicated to developing the local community's attitude towards the environment and social welfare. Starting with greening up the city.

Muslim women are already leading the way in UK for Halal business development, economic reform and hosting the best social events. In green Islam matters, there's also a revival from organisations like this, which begins at the humble kitchen table.

In an act of spiritual revival, the group's headlining project is aptly called 'Our Deen is Green'. Under this banner, the Council has organised recycling and upcycling workshops in Bradford to transform everyday household "rubbish" into something new.

They've held workshops in women-only spaces in the Yorkshire Dales, to deepen their understanding about their responsibilities in their environment.

In a multi-cultural city like Bradford, that is driven by consumerism and ever-growing demand for 'fast' fashion, 'fast' food and 'fast' cars, connecting Islam to everyday living is crucial to changing mindsets. This is why I'm so grateful and happy the organisation has booked trips to popular parks and forests such as Ogden Waters, Northcliffe Park, Ingleborough, Pen-y-ghent and Grassington.
"We held discussions in a local café about the need for and importance of climate action, sustainability of the environment and nature... linking it with reflection upon Islamic scripture and Islamic tradition related to the environment." - MWC, The Team
One of their upcoming events for women that I encourage all my viewers to book is their 'Our Deen is Green: Walk and Talk' event this January 2023 in Haworth, Bradford (see poster).

If you're new to eco-Islam or would like some company outdoors while reflecting on Allah's picturesque design of Haworth, contact the Muslims Women's Council on 01274 223230, or email directorsoffice[at]muslimwomenscouncil.org.uk.
